Marine life
What is a marine safari, and what is it like in Baja California Sur?
Go out to observe the life of the sea in freedom: an adventure guided by nature, not by a programmed spectacle.

A search, not a script.
In Con Gorra we use marine safari to talk about an exit of exploration and observation of fauna in its natural environment. The boat allows to travel the sea; the attention is put on what happens around and in the indications of the team.
This distinguishes it from an attraction with times of appearance: here we talk about wild animals. The name of the activity does not mean that we will see a specific species or that all encounters will be underwater.
Do you always have to get in the water?
No. Watching from the boat and entering the water are different activities. A sighting route can be enjoyed from the boat. If an expedition contemplates snorkeling or diving, the conditions, requirements and activities included should be reviewed separately.
Before choosing, ask what part of the trip takes place on board, whether there are water activities, and what experience they require. Knowing how to swim does not amount to being prepared for any dive exit.
What animals can be found?
The answer depends on the route and the season. On the page of each expedition we explain the approach of the trip: for example, the sighting of the gray whale in López Mateos and the marine exploration from La Ventana are experiences with different contexts.
A picture of dolphins or a whale in a gallery shows a meeting, but it does not constitute a list of animals guaranteed for your departure. You should choose from the full experience and consult the published outputs.
Watching also means leaving room
The recommendations of observation responsible for NOAA Fisheries insist not to pursue, feed or provoke a reaction in animals. Maintaining wildlife space is part of the experience; an approach should not be forced to get a photo.
Concrete rules change according to place and species. The American recommendations we link together serve as a reference for good practices and do not replace the applicable Mexican regulation or the instructions of the local team.

Do I need to be expert to enjoy it?
You don't have to get there knowing how to identify all the species. Curiosity, questions and willingness to follow directions have their place in a first expedition. The important thing is that the route you choose is compatible with your experience and the activities you want to do.
Tell us on WhatsApp if it is your first departure, how many people travel and what interests them. So we can talk about a concrete experience, instead of assuming that all expeditions are the same.
